I have to make a formal apology to Google+.  In the previous blog post , I stated my opinion that, other than the "hangouts,"  Google+  seemed like little more than a simplified Facebook page. But then this morning, I was curious to know the origins of Labor Day, typed "Labor Day" in the search box and I discovered an article by a dear friend regarding Labor Day getaways and it was the 3rd search result... simply and only because she shared it on Google+. I don't know about you but that motivates me quite a bit more to utilize Google's social media tool. If you use blogger, it automatically prompts you to share with your circles.  It's nice not to have to set that up in your blog functionality and just have it "happen."

I am trying to make the transition from web designer to more of a marketing / social media role because that has been my passion for a while.  So naturally I use as many social media tools as possible, evaluating their end result and ways to fully utilize them. Obviously Facebook and Twitter  were a given in their massive popularity and YouTube began as a fun experiment for this singin dancin fool. Then I really wanted to blog about important and fun issues to me but find there's rarely time to spend the quality time I want on it.  I tried to keep regular posts going for a while but now I'm lucky if I post every month or so. Now there's Pinterest , which seems to be spreading like wildfire - and I enjoy it because I am such a visual person. Of course I'm an avid, daily user of LinkedIn for the purpose of networking in the job arena and finding that right place of employment. Then we have Google+ which you can't really ignore since, well it's Google...

Two good girl friends (also wacky Supernatural fans like myself) and I set off last weekend to explore some ghost towns of Colorado.  We were clad in our flannel, armed with iron & holy water, salt and whatever else a Supernatural hunter needs... in case.  We tried to play our parts (Dean, Sam & Gabriel) but I found myself always saying "AMATEUR! Stay - in - character" till I just gave that up.  :)  We stayed in a cheap motel like Sam & Dean would, ate at diners and were always on the look-out for pie.  To some aspects of the characters we were true.  I did my research on the various local ghost tales, we talked to as many residents as we could regarding the supernatural in their area.  We found more stories and lore than proof - but what I found was that I could never be Dean. Of course it didn't help that there were aspects of my femininity reminding me I wasn't a male hunter :) But even more - WE were there having fun... we were not ...

I've been reading about meditation but it never crossed my mind before that it may be necessary to do open-eyed meditation... Susan Piver describes why in an email subscription I recently received: Regarding the eyes: people often wonder why they're kept open during practice, saying that it's just too distracting or that it's easier to become peaceful with the eyes closed. Duly noted! And if the point of meditation was to minimize distraction and feel peaceful, this would be a problem. But the idea (of this practice, in any case) is neither. Instead, it is to find a sense of steadiness in the midst of all distractions and to cultivate acceptance of any and all mind states: including peacefulness, but also extending to irritation, ecstasy, sadness, dullness, silliness, sharpness, and so on. It's pretty unlikely I'll buy this (you know, tight budget and all that) but I just had to give props to MAC for releasing this new Wonder Woman line of make-up . It would be awesome to see their NYC store as it's currently transformed to look like a Wonder Woman comic . I'm not a girly girl and am severely fashion impaired but I do wear lots of make-up for bellydance... I'll bet amazon-powered lips and lashes and would be especially exiting for Hips of Fury ;-) The glitter alone could be useful in deflecting unwanted evil... At the recommendation of a twitter friend, I picked up Snake Hips: Belly Dancing and How I Found True Love from the library. Its playful conversational style and personal narrative flow made it a quick, easy read. It's one woman's story following a break-up and how bellydance became a fun, life-changing hobby to pull her out of the heartbreak. She describes adventures in both dating and becoming immersed in the bellydance community. I was more interested to read about her experiences with bellydance. Anyone who gets into it knows how addictive it is and so then you move to the next phase after classes; performing. Anyone who performs gigs can empathize with her experiences in the dreadful venues; shows getting delayed by hours, little pay, no dressing room area, uninterested audience members, etc. Performing in places ranging from senior centers, random carnivals, bars, concerts and the most unexpected places is always an adventure. Susan Piver is an author I REALLY enjoy - her books, blog, newsletter, etc. feel less like a spiritual teacher lecturing and more like a friend providing extremely insightful advice. You should care because as far as I can tell, Twitter is insanely effective FREE advertising & networking which can lead to colleague relationships you never expected. I've won give-a-ways on twitter, gotten web design advice, made friends, even interacted with celebrities. It's freakin awesome even if you're not using it for business. Hey dancers - frustrated because your budget or time doesn't allow for belly dance class? Do you spend countless hours behind a computer desk wishing you could be practicing dance instead? Well good news, you can practice isolations just about anywhere!  Sitting at your desk :   1. alternating glute squeezes.   This is pretty easy to do without anyone noticing (so long as your face isn't making a weird expression. :) As you hopefully know, alternating squeezing each butt cheek is a great way to build up your shimmy strength (while also building muscle memory). First make sure you have the correct posture. Then focus the mind on right cheek, squeeze and then left. If you can only do it slowly that's just fine, it's still an effective exercise and eventually you'll easily speed up.
